Lean UX is an iterative design methodology that focuses on collaboration, customer feedback and rapid prototyping to build user centric solutions. Applying lean UX to this project involves several stages, emphasizing continuous learning and adaption based on user feedback. Establishing assumptions and hypotheses statements, prioritising them and then creating a minimum viable product after user research and early feedback through usability testing and validating solutions.

Learning from the Competitors

Competitor Insights

Through the competitive analysis, we gained valuable insights into the crowdfunding landscape. We observed that platforms offering a diverse range of campaign types tend to attract a wider donor base, yet they often face challenges related to high transaction fees, which can deter potential contributors. Simplifying the donation process, such as through one-click donations, significantly enhances user experience and engagement; however, this convenience often comes with increased processing costs. Community engagement emerges as a vital component, as initiatives that foster local connections not only build trust but also drive participation, although their reach may sometimes be limited. Additionally, many platforms exhibit a reliance on corporate sponsorships or social media for visibility, which poses risks to their stability and growth, potentially restricting choices for donors and organizations alike. Accessibility and connectivity remain critical, especially for initiatives targeting global issues, as they directly influence impact. Lastly, the effectiveness of visual storytelling in showcasing the impact of donations cannot be overstated; it strengthens donor trust and engagement. Overall, these findings highlight the need for a balanced approach that prioritizes user experience, community involvement, and operational efficiency while addressing the cost challenges inherent in a competitive environment.

Business Assumptions
User Assumptions
Designing Hypothesis
Creating Lean UX Canvas

Prioritising Business/User Assumptions involves identifying and evaluating the core beliefs that underpin your product or service. By understanding these assumptions, teams can focus on what truly matters for users and the business. This helps in minimising risks and aligning efforts with user needs.

Designing Hypotheses A well-crafted hypothesis outlines expected outcomes from specific actions, enabling teams to validate or invalidate their ideas through user feedback and data analysis. This iterative approach promotes learning and adaptability.

Creating a Lean UX Canvas serves as a visual framework to synthesise these insights. It allows teams to capture assumptions, hypotheses, user needs, and metrics in one place. The canvas encourages collaboration and communication among stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of goals and strategies. By using the Lean UX Canvas, teams can effectively streamline their design process.

Together, these practices enable a more agile, evidence-based approach to product development, leading to innovative solutions that resonate with users and drive business success.

A mood board visually captures the desired aesthetic and emotional tone of a website portfolio, featuring images, colors, and typography to guide design decisions. Complementing this, a style guide provides detailed guidelines for design elements like spacing and iconography, ensuring consistency across the site. Brand colors are essential for establishing identity and evoking emotions, reinforcing recognition and usability. Lastly, brand values define the principles that inform messaging and design choices, ensuring the portfolio authentically represents the creator’s mission. Together, these elements create a cohesive online presence that resonates with potential clients and reflects the creator's unique vision.

When designing a prototype for a donation app using principles like Fitts' Law, Hick’s Law, Jakob’s Law, Proximity, and Tesler's Law, the goal is to enhance usability, reduce cognitive load, and create a seamless user experience.

Design Principles Used

1. Fitts’ Law - The time to acquire a target is a function of the distance to and size of

the target. For application we leveraged this law by providing CTA Buttons and Quick Actions

2. Hick’s Law - The time it takes to make a decision increases with the number of

choices. For application we leveraged this law by providing Simplified Navigation and Preset Donation Options

3. Jakob’s Law - Users prefer your app to work like other apps they already know. For

application we leveraged this law by providing – Familiar Layouts and Standard Interactions

4. Proximity - Items close to each other are perceived as related. For application we

leveraged this law by providing Grouped Information and Place a cause’s image, description.

5. Tesler’s Law - Complexity cannot be eliminated, only shifted. For application we

leveraged this law by providing Simplify the user interface and Pre-fill known user information.
